I haven't done a set list this intricate with Mainstage before (Ultrabeat sequences, Kontakt, EXS24 custom samples, playback, nested arps and midi effects, etc) Previously, I mostly played the instruments. I still don't know if the problem which occured is related to where I mapped (within Ultrabeat) or how I mapped it.
CR78 EMULATOR MAC PATCH
With the Mainstage action, the entire patch will be triggered (all automation in all channel strips in the patch), while with the Ultrabeat action, only Ultrabeat will be triggered. This time I mapped to the Mainstage action (start/stop) instead of the Ultrabeat transport (start/stop).
If only some of life's other issues could be so easily fixed.Įnjoy playing now it works the way you want it to. If fixing the issue is as easy as remapping the controls I would be well pleased. I long ago stopped trying to reverse engineer my stuff ups. Jerry there are one, possibly two ways do things correctly and in my case at least, an unlimited number of ways to get it wrong. Tap tempo can be made bullet proof if you practice your ritual, but I have made a complete mess on stage with tap tempo in the past. However this Tony Banks bit is so short I am going to limp along with the four little snippets.
EXS 24 allows + or - 5 bpm before you get artifacts, which is more than adequate. I would think something like that would work live, again if you have the ability to use tap tempo from your controller.ĭoes the Kronos sample management allow Flexed/Stretched audio? That would be cool. I ended up hitting play and then tapping along with the drums with the tap tempo button and it lined up perfectly. On playback, it always drifted at parts because the drummer's tempo drifted a little bit. So I recorded it into the sequencer at close to the tempo then went ahead and quantized. I needed to record my part and email it to them. I wanted my solo to be as tight as possible but we had no click or MIDI tracks - I just had a mix down of the other parts. I did this recently recording a track for the original band.
I don't know if your rig will allow you to do this, but on the Kronos, leading into the part I tap along with the beat for a couple measures just to make sure it's synced up with the current tempo. One as mentioned is to assign samples to keys and trigger - as mentioned in this case the shortest you can keep the samples the better because any tempo differences will not result in noticeable deviations if they are short.Īrpeggiated patterns + Tap Tempo. Unfortunately I'm not a MainStage user so I can't offer specific tips, just things that I've done in the past. So which trib is it? I know most of them. Thanks in advance for any advice you might offer. From failed early attempts, I've ruled out Playback as it is too variable in timing, but I am wondering if Ultrabeat is also an option. Just wondering a) if you have done this kind of thing in Mainstage, b) which tools within Mainstage you would utilize? I'm leaning towards EXS24 and the arpeggiator, but I am open to suggestions.
In this keyboard mag interview, TB describes how he built the little sequence and sampled it.įor very nerdly reasons I would like to do an accurate emulation. I think the CD version sounds beautifully vintage 80s (fromage if you must call it that, but we all love aged Stilton don't we? ) For context, here's a bit of TB's Emulator with the later version (beginning at 19 seconds). When they lowered the key for live performance he re-recorded it and it sounds somewhat different in later live performances than it did on the CD. The trouble is, even TB changed up what he did, over the touring life of the song. I've talked myself into playing a few gigs with a Phil Collins/80s Genesis tribute band, and I'd like to do an accurate rendition of TB's Emulator II+ break in the middle of the song "Invisible Touch:" Looking for some help from most enlightened keyboard community on this planet earth.
